JAKO wins SECURITAS award 2010 Innovation for more security!
September 2010– During a gala event high above the roofs of Vienna, on the Skywalk of the Austrian Chamber of Commerce, JAKO is presented the “Silberne Securitas 2010“ award in the competition category “Innovativ für mehr Sicherheit – innovation for more security”. Every two years, the Austrian Chamber of Commerce “WKÖ“ and the accident insurance company AUVA – Allgemeine Unfallversicherungsanstalt - organise a competition for Austria's small and medium enterprises to honour companies that pursue innovative paths when it comes to the prevention of accidents at work and the fight against occupational diseases.
JAKO’s production has been based in Vienna for 60 years. During all this time, soldering and welding processes have been used for the production of pressure and temperature measuring devices. It is no secret that these processes entail risks in form of the release of contaminants and the occurrence of accidents at work. Therefore, risk management and risk minimisation has always been of utmost importance to JAKO.
With the participation in the competition “Goldene Securitas 2010“, we have presented one of our prevention projectsfor the protection of employees to a jury of experts. Presented was a soldering machine for the automatic production of thermometer thermowells. The following objectives were achieved:
1.) The soldering machine was installed in a room separate from the production staff to ensure protection against vapours with high contaminant content.
2.) Cooling processes take place in a closed cooling circuit. This allows reducingthe consumption of coolant severalfold and thus protecting the environment.
3.) With an altered soldering process with program-controlled feed systems for the solder and the “acid“ flux, it was possible to cut down on material consumption and to reduce the accident risk virtually to “0”compared with manual or semi-automated soldering processes.
4.) All of the produced thermowells are subjected to an automatic leak test. Additional metallurgical quality checks are carried out in a random test procedure.
5.) Thanks to the soldering machine, it was possible to bring about the targeted shift of the production staff’s work prioritieswith an increased focus on quality assuranceand machine optimisation.
On Thursday, the 23rd of September 2010, the day had come that JAKO received the “Silberne Securitas 2010“award for its “Innovation for more safety at the workplace“ during a gala event. JAKO is proud to be part of this initiative of WKÖ and AUVA. After all, health and safety are not only peoples’, but also small and medium enterprises’ main asset - namely employees who are productive because they are working in a healthy and accident-free environment.
